"I was into hip hop and house. I was used to the downbeats. The floor moves for you, you don't really have to dance. It took me three months to learn the basic step so it always surprises me by how fast people learn."
Coming from Lisa Laboriqua (great name, right?), the owner and teacher of Chicago's Latin Street Dancing, I don't know if that's hype or not. But I do know that I definitely enjoyed my first of four classes.
The 50 minute class went by faster than you can say "hot chips 'n salsa." That's actually a name of another class at Latin Street Dancing.
I'm glad my boyfriend suggested it. Lisa was telling me that she had a woman in the class drag her boyfriend to salsa lessons. Soon, he got so into it that he was taking advanced classes and going to the salsa club all the time. He left her for life in the red hot salsa lane.
I can't wait until next Wednesday's "Taste of Salsa" class.
